By popular demand 😉 this week will be a quick trip up to Diffwys.

Please don't expect a massive mine but we have a choice of Drum Boeth which has one of the nicest intact artifacts in Welsh slate and/or Diffwys Newydd. Each can be walked around in 15 minutes or so. But between that and the walk up and down, and the mill that should do for an evening :)

If anybody is really keen I'll bring a rubber dinghy and we can go boating in Diffwys Newydd. It's a mare of a job getting out of the boat though; and on the other side of the flooded chamber is... another flooded chamber. I had a near death experience in there a few years ago 😮

Meet up at 6.30 in the car park in the centre of Blaenau, the one with the little preserved loco and line of wagons.

Possibly, I'm easy, really don't mind what time I get back but will see what others think 🙂 Certainly would be time to go marching round both, but debateable if there'd be time if we go boating in Diffwys Newydd.

All being well, sinker and I should be there tomorrow. I'll bring spare clothes in case I fall out of the dinghy ...

If anybody reads this in time and has any lying around - a bit of old carpet for dinghy landings would be a good idea.

If we get to go dinghying that is. Might take a point of view after Drum Boeth that there's only time for a quick look in Diffwys Newydd. But if somebody wants to take the dinghy and go for a look they're very welcome 🙂 Beyond the flooded chamber is a flooded chamber and beyond that - if anything- I have no idea!

To go beyond the flooded chamber you have to abseil down from floor 3 to fl 5 which is the other side of the fall.
Might be an idea if anyone could do an srt which is approx. 30 metres. As I have not been there, but have chacked it out from the top of the chamber.
I will bring a rug for the boat. Our old boat has been in the water since 1993 when we had a puncture while attempting to land on the sharp slate. Water was bloody cold.
Weather is good at present.

Sorry, I'm ill so not coming, hope you get this message in time and don't wait for me. Shame as Hymac580c's got me yearning for some SRT exploration 😞
Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.

Indeed it was a great night out in the mine with a good turnout.
Interesting to see the mine owners got their money's worth out of the mine with long chambers and having robbed a few pillars. Having being abandoned after a collapse in the entry tunnel. Most of the rails are still in place as they could not get to them. The tripod crane is still in good condition considering the damp atmosphere.
I bet everyone slept well last night..

Glad all enjoyed it :)

I do admit the scramble down into the pit was a bit more extreme than I remembered 😞 sorry about that. Being dark and foggy probably didn't help. Oddly climbing back out didn't seem as sketchy though.

Worth it for the mine though - a few really nice things to see and almost nobody goes there. It's not one of the "big name" mines!

Hi people. Not sure if anyone has any plans for tomorrow night, but it's unlikely that I'll be able to make it, unless it's very local and very quick! Sorry, but it's just been one of those weeks..... :curse: Next week I promise to attend
