I'm finding wellies darn uncomfortable on long trips.

What are people using these days? Wellies, walking boots, working boots?

So many long trips the soles have disintegrated!

I use walking boots with wet socks and I have comfortable feet all day.

I used to wear wellies, but as you say they do become uncomfortable after a while & also heavy if full of water. I now wear a pair of old walking boots, (fabric, not leather) Especially good if a lot of walking is involved. I havn't tried them with wet socks though. I'll give that a try. :thumbup:

Steel toecapped wellies, c**e modified (2 small holes burned trough the instep) and wetsocks.

Better to regret something you have done - than to regret something you have not done.

i use trucker wellies with decent insoles in. many trips up to rhosydd with no problems :thumbsup:

Just got a new pair of wellies with steel toe cap after a near miss with a large rock on my foot - the old pair needed replacing anyway.

Never had comfort problems - always worn with a pair of wet socks.

A pair of thick socks over your wetsocks helps (particularly if your wetsocks have as many holes in as mine do).

I find that putting decent insoles in wellies ('supafeet' or similar) makes a big difference to comfort. 🙂

In small walk in mines with little water wellies are best. Eg Tynebottom Mine Garrigill.
In deep water boots are best with wet suit socks.The boots and wells must have steel toe caps as I know from bitter experience I spent nearly four years loading my big toe nil as envietably that it is the foot that hits the loose rocks.
Over many years I used rubber boots with aforementioned steel caps.
Recently I have been using ordinary builders boots which are allowed to dry out slowly between mine visits seems perfectly satisfactorily.Also gives much better freedom of movement when climbing.

Steel toe cap work boots, (similar to NCB style) liberally treated with 'Dales Dubbin' combined with thick insole wool/nylon socks.

Wellies work well for me and keeps the nasty acidic water from causing trench foot. :lol:
The Dunlop sitemaster welly with a red sole, also has a steel belt to stop penetration from nails and the like. Another benefit; They're VAT exempt as they are personal safety equipment.
The old Dunlop rubber ankle boots used to be great. Steel toecaped too + wetsocks, a super combination :thumbup:

I generally use safety wellies if the mine doesn't have too much water over welly depth. I've also got an old pair of the rubber ankle boots which I prefer if there's going to be a lot of knee-depth or greater wading involved, less water squelching around inside while you're in it and easier to empty out when back on the dry.

Simon, how come you didn't replace those wellies ages ago, the sitemasters Roy M mentioned can be got off fleabay pretty cheap. I've seen wellies in better condition abandoned in modern mines....

wellies and wet socks.

I bort a new pair of wet socks yesterday and used them u/g today - FANTASTIC they are!!! Beaver wet socks. They have a double or triple sole to them, thicker neoprene all round and a titanium lining! So very comfy, best ones Ive had and i recommend them to you all!

Dunlop wellies for me. I do like hiking boots, but getting them wet isn't the deal.

I've got some shorter dunlop green things with poncey loop and steel caps. They leak, but what the hell.

Athlete's foot doesn't like minewater.

Having said, the smell of my wellies is something to behold. Not sure if they weren't vulcanised properly, or I have foot aids.

Standard Dunlops for me, normal socks, with extra thick hiking ones too. Even then, the mud in Hendre tried to rip them off my feet several times today. I think without the thick socks, it may well have succeeded. I still made it down to the water table though.
