Hello,
Can anyone tell me when Joseph Burley Smith, (aka J. Burley Smith) civil and mining engineer, passed away and where. He was local manager in 1889 for the Anglo-Continental Guano Works in Buckingham, Ottawa County, Quebec, Canada. In ca. 1896 he diamond drilled on a lake in NW Ontario, discovered the extension of the Sultana gold mine, and built a barge which he floated into place and sank a shaft from. In the 1911 British census for Hampstead, London he was listed as manager of Redonda Island in the British West Indies. This was a guano and phosphate mining operation until WW I. He was born at Little Easton, Derbyshire on August 17th,1839.
He may have also been in charge of an iron mine in England.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
