hi,

i was just wondering if anyone knew my father leonard williams which worked in shilbottle mine from 1950 to 1970 as i trying to find out more about my family background.

The only place I can think of is the Durham Mining Museum. That has quite a bit of info on the mine and perhaps more importantly a link to the Northumberland and Durham Family History Society.

You could also try the " Keys to the Past " website which is run by Durham and Northumberland councils and is full of historical info, photos and maps.

Did he work anywhere else after Shilbottle? A lot of the guys from those places like Shilbottle, Whittle, Scremerston, Longhirst etc went to Bates and surrounding pits when the pits were gradually being shut down. I know my dad worked with a few guys from these places. I'll ask him if he knows the name.

Believe he work with a man called Harry RAMSEY

He had a accident down the mines when a propt fell on his back
and also got married to a Sadie BARKER

If this any help as trying to help my mum Hazel out

leonard also had 3 children. Hazel, George and Heather Williams.

I've asked a few local ex miners who worked with some of the Shilbottle lads but couldn't get any info, sorry 🙂
