joking apart I would always have reservations about any HSE related claims for any Chinese made item.
I bought a Chinese-made caplamp in 2009, one of those Oldham-knock-off ones with the little belt-mounted battery. It's been a good lamp for what I use it for but there is no avoiding the fact that the certification number moulded on it is out of date and refers to a completely different unit.
Just lately I was doing some research into survey equipment ( robotic total stations, actually ) for a gas terminal application. I found at least three instruments specifically described as "explosion proof for coal mining" by their Chinese distributors, but NOT by their European distributors/brand name owners - who specifically said they were NOT, in two cases out of three.
Chinese-made V-Gard knock-offs can sometimes be distinguished by fading almost translucent from prolonged sunlight.
''the stopes soared beyond the range of our caplamps' - David Bick...... How times change .... oh, I don't know, I've still got a lamp like that.
