Having you re-read the statement by the FR/WHR? I think these two bits make interesting reading when read together!

"The tracks across Britannia Bridge have been in place since June 2008, together with bilingual signs warning road users of railway tracks in the road and advising cyclists to dismount and walk across."

"Until the crossing design is finalised and approved the company has covered the rails with tarmac enabling traffic to flow in exactly the same way it did prior to the installation of the track.

Some how those statements seem to contradict each other!

That is on the Menai Bridge?

My goodness that is totally bonkers. Normally you can at least work out the thought processes behind a daft decision, even when totally disagreeing with it.

But I cannot see any kind of logic behind such a dangerous initiative such as that.

And of course, back in Portmadoc, since there is apparently a sensible cycle path avoiding the problem, we are all way off topic (but what fun).

I'm off to bed. Night.

umm well its very simple really.
A car is pretty wide and 2 cars will not fit side by side through the narrow bits bridge.
Bikes are a lot narrower hence riding 2 abreast will fit easily on the bridge.

Of course but:

1. Like as not cars will always see it to always overtake cyclists. In fact I personally find problems with oncoming cars wandering into my lane when they are overtaking cyclists a hazard that happens more often than I encounter problems with cyclists directly.

A question - would it be safe to overtake a cyclist on the Menai Bridge?

Even if it were not, I can guarantee that there are plenty of muppets who will try to do so. So in reality, making an exception for cyclists on this bridge can make a near miss into an accident. So I simply think it not a good idea.

2. And why cannot motorcyclists overtake cyclists? (Not that they would take any notice on any restriction anyway). 😉

Anyway, I am currently sober but about to have a few. So I wonder how cider will affect my brain as the evening progresses.
Been injured while at work and are not to blame?

Get over it.

umm it means that bikes can over take bikes, not that cars can over take bikes
"except bicycles by bicycles"

any way this has wandered :offtopic: !

Yes it does and it's coming on nicely.
Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.

I'll get the hang of where to post things eventually. This was in reply to the loco Russell's home.

Porthmadog Bypass start 29/1/10

Transport Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones marked the start of construction of the Porthmadog Bypass on 29/1/10 by planting a tree in one of the landscape areas in the development. Work on the viaduct over the WHR and WHHR, just south of Pen-y-Mount, is scheduled to be completed this year before the WHR opens to Porthmadog. Work on the bridge under the FR, just east of Minffordd will be undertaken next Winter and the road opened in 2011. See BBC website. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/8485835.stm

The final road improvement to affect the WHR will be a A487 Caernarfon Bypass from the north end of the existing Pen-y-Groes bypass south of Llanwnda to the west end of Y Felinheli Bypass east of Caernarfon. This is likely to cross the WHR just north of Bontnewydd Halt. Planning has started for this section of the A487.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
