I've recently visited and walked around the surface workings of the Esgair Mwyn lead mine near Ysbyty Ystwyth. Seems there's significant trash near the shaft at the top of the hill, indicating some substantial fly-tipping operation in the last few decades.

It makes me wonder: Has anyone here been inside? What's the state of the inner workings? Is the adit still intact?

I have not been up to Esgair Mwyn for a couple years now, after a scrappy from south Wales vandalised and stole most of the machinery still on site in broad daylight. It hurts to go back now, especially since my family used to work underground there and seeing the place in its current state, but I must admit I have never been underground there myself. The Penmynydd Shaft above the mill still had an iron ladder disappearing down it a few years ago, but am not sure of the state of the workings further down. The adit portal has been collapsed since the 1980s at least, after its brief reopening and re-railing by G W Hall during the 40s/50s. The only way down into the workings now is via Penmynydd Shaft I believe (75 fms deep), since I seem to remember Penmor Shaft (102 fathoms deep) being filled at surface.

As of last year the ladder is still there, rusty but looked sturdy enough...

I would not chance it. The late George Hall had them slip on him once coming up. This was when he was working the place. Use a rope with full SRT, and be careful of the security of anything you pass, not wanting it to come down on you.
My avatar is a poor likeness.

Oh definitely Roy, I certainly didn't mean for anyone to think it was solid enough to use solo!

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
