sorry to have to ask, i feel very lazy to do so, but i am struggling to find the info - i am surely looking in the wrong places.

Would anyone be able to tell me any rope lengths for any of the cwymystwyth trips? or point me in the right direction to find out. i might not be very popular if we turn up with a few metres too short of rope

thanks very much 🙂

You don't indicate which trip your looking at doing. Graig Fawr through trip, or just up through the stopes, or maybe Rosa?

From Lefel Fawr you can get almost within sight of daylight on fixed ladders, but beware of loose stuff everywhere. There has already been one accident!

Rosa needs a fair bit of rope? Queens I hear is interesting but i have no idea what the pitches are like. Through trip would also be good.

Decisions are easier with a bit of info. I'm quite happy to go for a mooch about a and explore, but not everyone is. Some people much prefer to know exactly what is needed. We may not know how much rope we have between us till Saturday, so that might rule out some trips

Might be best to talk to someone from SCMC who were helping at NAMHO, both Pughs which is very advanced SRT, and Queens which is much easier were rigged for trips.

Shropshire caving and Mining Club.

I would forget about Pughes, Queens I think is just a couple of short ropes, first pitch is about 30 feet, then a slope.

🙂 Ahhh, thank you

Now I'm curious to know how horrific Pugh is. If Bwlch Glas gets about a 2/10 hardness rating, how wouls Pughs compare? Unconventional? 100m pitches? Stinky rock/false floors etc?

Queens. needs about 20m rope on 1st pitch and 25m on second sloping pitch. You. need. 3 hangars on first and 2 hangers on second. All 10 mm.
Two crabs for deviations. It is not a through trip

Forgot all about the skipway!

Its about 80 feet plus the extra for the belay, but just one rope anyway. I would take a 40 metre to cover it.

Probably the best and most straightforward SRT at Cwmystwyth. People usually walk down the rails.

Grout, that's brilliant info, thank you very much! We easily have that kit between us. We can start to make a more educated choice now 🙂

Slightly off topic but is there a decent amount to see without SRT?

Plenty! Loads to see in Level Fawr without SRT, lots of fun too. I like the trip up the pipe then further up the fixed ladders.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
