UK Abandoned Mine Explores
In this video from our archieve, recorded last Summer, we scrambled down, then up, 660 feet cliffs to explore the abandoned coastal alum mine tunnels of Loftus in the UK, dating back to the 1650s! These tunnels are rapidly being eroded away by the sea as they are in soft shale cliffs. We also look at a near by tram tunnel.

Hope you enjoy.

A good answer, I give you that.

Just watched it. Certainly a funny old place. Reminds me of some of my adventures down Cornwall. Abseiling down cliffs to reach adits run in after 10 yards etc.

Nature of the game.

Yes, it was a good day out Roy, only time I've ever visited mines of that nature. Some say the tunnels we crawled through were flooded as part of the process, I need to look into it more on day. Getting back up was fun, but not as bad as Port Mulgrove was when I was there, especially as it had had a recent landslip.

As a general comment, we all have to start somewhere with everything.

Thanks Roy,

I use a cheap Chinese light, only £8 but a lot if light for your money and has spot and flood, usually last about a year before the buttons give up the ghost. I coukd likely find some thin material to act as diffuser for the spot.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
