Hi I am looking for any underground quarry lakes that might be suitable for diving in. They will need to be reasonably near the entrance and parking. I am not looking for flooded tunnels just lakes that we could dive in. If you have any ideas I would be interested them.

Yes bump even open water areas under ground can be littered with obstacles and the chance of zero visibility with one wrong fin kick and should only be dived by people with correct training and experience with navigation, equipment and lines

I have been caving for the past 27 years mostly in the caves and mines of North Wales and a member of the NWCRO for about 20 years. While I have done lots of trips in the slate mines/quarries my main interest has been in digging in the caves around Wrexham. I haven't paid much attention to the possible lakes for diving in.

I have been diving since 2007 mostly around North Wales. I am a member of Gwynedd sub aqua club. I am not a cave diver which is why I am looking for lakes to dive in as apposed to tunnels. I am looking for some interesting places to dive over the winter while the boat is put away.

Not being a cave diver Michael I think you will struggle to get to much info passed on even though you are looking at open pools and are a experienced open water diver . The whole approach diving in dark spaces whether tunnels or open pools is totally different .

Maybe I am wrong ?

I'd suggest joining the Cave Diving Group, and getting the highly essential training and skills over and above what most 'normal' diving (both courses and experience) can teach.

Yes of course there is the CDG but there is also TDI and IANTD that offer good cave/ mine dive training, in fact the IANTD do a specific mine diver course starting with the Ltd Mine and then on to full mine diver. I have amongst other things done the mine diver course and it is a very good intensive course where you will develop a lot of new skills
