This is to be hosted by Cambrian Mines Trust in association with Dr Peter Claughton as conference (lecture program) organiser. Peter has extensive experience in organising events and the trust is extremely grateful for his expertise.

Cave Access Ltd will be providing access to mines on land owned by the Welsh Government.

The theme of the conference will be “Mine exploration as a research tool - applications in mining history, geology and archaeology” and the event will take place over the weekend of Thursday 4th July until Monday 8th July inclusive.
Please note the 5 day event.

Venue: Llanafan, Ceredigion.

The venue is close to Cymystwyth and Frongoch, and a short distance only from most field trips. Longest is Talybont at 17 miles.

The ‘NAMHO Village’ comprises one of the biggest community halls in Ceredigion (Lisburne Hall) as the main hall for lectures, reception, and Saturday evening sit down dinner. Facilities include the main hall which holds up to 120 people, modern kitchen etc and 5 toilets, (2G 2L and disabled). Fully licensed of course.
The Church Hall is a short distance away and will be used for display stands. These will include the hosting trust, Cave Access Ltd, South and Mid Wales Cave Rescue, and some of the participating clubs. Its also has its own toilets. Display areas demonstrating the history and work of the trust and also of Cave Access Ltd

Parking; there are verges a plenty in the immediate vicinity plus parking on a small industrial estate about 50 yards away, Saturday and Sunday only.

Camping will be at the Maesyfelin Sports Complex which is just around the corner. The car park will be for caravans and motor homes and football field for tents. There is a permanent toilet block, a log cabin as informal meeting point, and a portable 4 person shower will be on site. There will be a Saturday Night barbecue as an alternative to the dinner centred on the ‘cabin’.

The object of this early announcement is to enable prospective delegates very ample forward planning. Unlike last time it is unlikely any trips will be cancelled and we are aiming to make this a record event.

Field trips will include much new ground in the popular mines and also some new locations.

Full details will be available after next years Royal Forest of Dean event.

Its basically same news handouts.
Any questions or queries, its ask Roy.

However, I would like to stress the importance of leaving this on the back burner until next years event is over.
Its next years RFD event to think about now, apart from filling in your 2019 diary dates.

Update

Campsite Facilities

These have been booked, 4 additional portallos plus one disabled portaloo, 4 unit shower unit. This is additional to one permanent toilet and ladies and gents changing rooms.

Camping Charges

We are charging by the head rather than by the tent as our major expense in in the provision of toilet and shower facilities.

Friday and Saturday Evening. £12 per head

Thursday and Sunday evening £6 per head.

Same charges apply to either tent or caravan or motor home using the Maesefelin site.

Parking for motor homes having own facilities can be found at the Industrial Estate near the hall for Saturday and Sunday only at no charge.

Trips
Had to cancel Brynyrafr as the entrance is in a state of imminent collapse. Its only a minor location, so make little difference to the event.

We are slowly getting it all together and am currently assembling leaders and admin staff. We are putting quite a bit into this and hope that we get a good attendance. It is hoped that the 4 day event and discounted extra camping nights will attract people from further afield.

When do we book our trips Roy?

Looking forward to this - time off work confirmed

I need to sort out trips list, ...but
It will remain flexible in that any trip that attracts little interest will probably be cancelled to make room for an extra trip into a more popular mine.

I am currently sorting out who leads what.
I would not worry about 'getting onto anything'. There will be no looser's on this one. Only thing limited will be numbers on some trips, not the number of trips.

Not yet Mike, Peter is working on it. We had a talk at the NAMHO council meeting.
He is going to slot David James in first on Sat to free up the rest of his time.

Hi people

I need to get a couple of things sorted.

1/ vegetarian meal option, Saturday evening dinner.
I need to ascertain whether this option is required, and popular preference. Hafod will lay this on no bother, but need to know demand.

2/ Optional Sat night camp site barbecue.
Again, need to know how many people interested.

If will fit my system best if people email me direct at [email protected]

Sorry Roy, do you mean Sun night BBQ or is it for those not going to the dinner?

Roy,
seems to be a strange request to put out as we stated preferences on the booking form.

I know of at least 3 fully committed carrot crunchers who are attending on the Saturday evening:surrender:

BBQ is alternative to the Saturday night dinner, says "Sat". If its a record number of delegates I feel I need to cater for the numbers.

Mike. Is the third option a veggie and its only me who doesn't know it?

I know all about fried bacon, traditional beef, and steaks, and thats it.
