Back to "Aged Members" topic.
The main thing is to stay healthy & avoid beta blockers. They tend not to work very well, if you have to take beta blockers. ;)

I took them in a small dose for a short while a couple of years ago and yes they do make you feel very lethargic luckily dont need them now,I thought they were the devils drug !

Same here! Dreadfull things, they made me loose interest in everything.
I had a mate who took them for a while & he came close to ending it all. Said he didn't feel he was a man anymore, due to the "member" side effect.

Confession, I had to look up what you are talking about.

A bit peed off with age thing, 73 in January and training 4 nights a week at karate and aikido, working weekends on concreting and 'sponsored RSJ lifting'.

I think different people live in different worlds.

I think you must be blessed with good genes. That & the martial arts, which seem too allow people to keep going when they should be gone.
Old family friend (of 4 generations) & life long practitioner of the said arts, was still teaching karate & Tai-chi in his 80's. Despite having had leukaemia for some years .

I think genetics must play a considerable part in it. Any Roy certainly seems blessed with those genes - along with the sheer determination to keep on going with his jobs.

Round here, it's said that you've got to start planning a funeral for one of the old farmer lot by hitting them on the head with a shovel.

I know one (retired) old farmer who still plays quite an aggresive game of badminton at the age of 79.

A friend of mine announced his retirement from active underground exploration at the age of 79. A few months later he celebrated his 80th birthday with a winch trip down Gapping Gill Main shaft!

There I was thinking my Dad had set quite a benchmark by going down Brewery Shaft at 70:curse:

I remember Roy when he was just 59 and thinking how he's doing well. Clearly that was a long time ago, and he's still going just as well.
I hope I am in such good condition in my 70's.

Chris.

Thank you for your kind remarks.
I was not doing well at all when i hit 65, worse year of my life. I had a problem, well, don't want to talk about it. Following year was having other issues as well.
Whatever happened in my head to make me go back to karate at 67 I dont know, but it was the turning point.

If I am trying to make a point here, I suppose that it would have to that its never to late to make a fresh start.

He did Brewery Shaft (plus a trip into Smallcleugh) at the 2015 NAMHO conference when he was 77!

As Roy is just a tard younger than myself, and I am not yet 77, it seems a little optimistic to state that he was down Brewery shaft at this age.
No doubt he was down there during the NAMHO meet, but my guess is he was just a little younger than this.
Roy keep it up, as I am.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
