I can remember cycling past Long Rake in the 70s when there was mining going in. My school playground was surfaced with calcite chippings, our chemistry teacher proved it by dropping some in sulphric acid ! Calcite was good for playgrounds as it didn't cut little boys knees when they fell over on it.
