A fair bit of news coverage, this about the best image of the 'adit'. Many old sandpits marked on 25 inch maps.

There were two lovely quotes in the article I saw from the car's owner and his brother in law. The owner said "I'm not angry, it's Gods will, I just hope the car's not damaged".
His brother in law said "I woke up at 4am and looked out of the window. There were loads of police around. There was nothing I could do so I went back to sleep." Top man!

Looking at that first photo, there appears to be some sort of structure to the hole, maybe a forgotten cellar?.

I thought that, also suspected the church may have been involved, crypt/passage etc.

Perhaps there was something there prior to the current available mapping?
