The full programme and booking/payment details are now available for the international conference 'Celebrating the Tinworking Landscape of Dartmoor in its European Context: Prehistory to 20th Century' which is to be held in Tavistock, Devon UK from 6-11 May 2016. details. This conference (Reception, 12 lectures including speakers from Czech Republic, France, Germany and Spain, with 3 full days of field trips, plus 3 evening events) marks the 25th anniversary of the Dartmoor Tinworking Research Group and the 10th anniversary of the UNESCO World
Heritage designation of the Cornwall & West Devon Mining Landscape. The
discounted cost is £175 per person for the full six days.

I was planning on going given that it is on my doorstep, however the £175 conference fee is way too steep for my pocket. I suspect that this will put a lot of people off.

There are cheaper options I note £110 for the weekend including 2 evening meals the other visits are broken down by cost which include evening meals and transport - if you contact Tom he can no doubt do a deal

I was only discussing the fee with other interested parties... general consensus is that it is way to high. It appears to me that a golden opportunity has been missed here to promote the history of tin working of Dartmoor. I for one will not be attending at that price...

Not anymore... resigned about 2 years ago... There's no bad feelings here either, as been helping the new chairman with the 2016 AGM... Just my personal, and a few others, opinions.

I think most of my crowd would have attended if price had been comparable with or even slightly higher than (say) the NAMHO conference. Certainly the couple of people I have spoken to have said that the price is prohibitive. As you say an opportunity missed.
