It - somehow - seems like yesterday that I created the first few pages on what was initially a very silly web site with a slightly silly name...

That was nearly 10 years ago. And that very silly web site has grown up into a massive resource. Hopefully a useful one and hopefully a friendly and welcoming site for anybody into our hobby.

In a few weeks we should reach the 100,000th uploaded photo... And this only happens because of you lot 🙂 Adding mines, uploading photos and documents and contributing to the forum.

But please don't stop... I know Facebook is hard to compete with for ease of upload and for sharing with friends. But this site indexes and archives in a way Facebook and the like don't.

I really appreciate that a large number of people have put an incredible amount of effort into this web site. Thank you all. Please stop reading now, this plea isn't for you 🙂

But if you've got photographs related to mining history or exploration, UK or abroad, past or present, please do consider uploading and sharing them - even preserving them - by uploading them.

The forum would benefit from trip reports, gear reviews or even any club events or news you might want to share with a wider audience.

I also think over the coming months we need to recruit a few more regional editors to keep the database in order in certain parts of the country where we no longer have an active regional editor.

Together we can continue building up this great resource.

Never stop exploring and all that!
my orders are to sit here and watch the world go by

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
