Hi,
Can anyone recommend an off the shelf lamp or flashlight suitable for lighting underground video?

Have been experimenting with GoPro HD Hero and GoPro HD Hero 2 and having disappointing results so far 😞

Need something with a very wide flood beam and bat roastingly bright.....

Try Trout Lights. Troutie builds lights for moutain biking. Theyre very bright with a broad spread and russian tank-like reliability.

If I get a chance I'll post something shot in Penarth on YouTube. The footage was with a Trout light on a GoPro.

I'll pop a link to it on here when done.

I use a Sten - it has a broad, bright light which is evenly spread.

Don't use a Raptor or anything that confines the beam.

Also don't bother with a Petzl duo or anything similar as you won't get anything decent from it.

It also matters where you are filming - if you are in a slate mine alone - forget about video. You need a LOT of light to get anything half decent in the chambers (A party of 4 or more isn't bad). If you are in, say, a lead mine, you will be fine as long as you don't have a confined beam.

I was considering a GoPro camera and would be very interesting in seeing your results if you wouldn't mind popping something on youtube 😉

A door, once opened, may be stepped through in either direction.

Not fussed as long as I can light the place up 😉

I'll ping Roy an email...

GoPro HD Hero 2 is pretty good for the price (if it has enough light), the original GoPro HD Hero is lame underground and I shall be selling mine and upgrading to the GoPro HD Hero 2.

YouTube 'test footage' exists but isn't currently for public consumption.....not for sneaky beaky reasons.....just to save someone a lot of embarrassment as they had a spontaneous wader breach/camera swimming episode

Petzl Duo 14 versus a Trout Light Lumen Liberator 3 (chest mounted) and one of my home made LEDs (mounted on left side of helmet)

I switch the Lib off at about 35-36 seconds.

More from the same trip. In one of the larger chambers.

Interesting to see this light in action, thanks for posting.

No problem. Please bear in mind there are two high power LEDs in operation here. Troutie's Lumen Liberator is mounted on my chest / shoulder and my home made LED is on the left side of my helmet. I'm deliberately looking round in the above movie, so you'll be able to work out which light is doing what.
