I think we might be sorted with this.
John Cam put my new fence up the other day and there was a reinforced concrete post left over.

He said he'll be able to trim it to size with his grinder.

I'm pleased to confirm that this is indeed a clothes dryer / airer. Made by Servis in the 1960s. I met my husband two years ago and this object was part of the deal! He'd bought one when they were first made. Yes - it's heavy, but that's why it's so good. Wish we could find another as the 'arms' on ours are getting a bit arthritic!
