Nothing mine related, but does anyone know what the heck this is ?

πŸ”—Personal-Album-859-Image-72449[linkphoto]Personal-Album-859-Image-72449[/linkphoto][/link]

Suspect its photography related, my only guess was for hanging prints out to dry.

Fragments of a sticker on the side say "ERVIS" and "LASTON-ENGLAN"

Answers on a postcard.

The ervis could be Servis, who made washing machines and tumble driers, maybe it was to hang cloths on to dry ?

Possible, I got it with a camera but I think the auction room mistakenly though it was a tripod and grouped them.

There also a faded sticker for "Steel Appeal - Design Center London" which seem to date it pretty firmly to 1972.

My curiosity is purely knowing how to describe it so I can flog it on ebay

Also looks like a groundplane array for a 2metre vertical antenna.....But I don't think Servis made them

The "ENGLAN" has to be England the "LASTON" depending on the spacing is quite possibly a town either beginning with "LASTON" ending with it or just part of it. gLASTONbury, barLASTON, if you get my drift.

Further digging (mine related πŸ˜‰ ) has revealed this link:
http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=53474

This says that the Steel Appeal label was attached to articles that were "point of purchase displays" in this case paper. So could it be one of those displays carrying sheets of wrapping paper???

That was my first thought too Carlin. Given that Servis were based in Darlaston, nr. Wolverhaptom could we have a winner?

Servis at Wolverhampton/Darlaston sounds plausible, but would the feet be stable or strong enough to support a load of wet clothes?

Thinking about the "Lasto" - Lastolite make photographic accessories - so could it be the print dryer?

It weighs an absolute ton, so I think it would easily take wet clothes.

But I don't think it's going to make a rich man on ebay is it.

Anyone want to buy a vintage clothes airer πŸ˜‰

I vote for Carlin as the winner....it's definitely a clothes airer

And I think he should be awarded it as his prize

Will it fit in a Nissan Micra???! :o

We could use it to dry our clothes after a Thursday Night trip in Blaenau, but I'm not carrying it up to Diffwys

He's welcome to it as prize, but I suspect the presentation ceremony would involve leaving it on his doorstep and driving away at speed.

Use it as an Aerial antenna? πŸ™‚

You young bulls keep trying to catch out this old bull with varied and obtuse questions on mining history, and you fail!
Now you're trying to catch me out with strange pieces of household equipment! And still you fail!
Way back in 19 hundred and something my wife and I had one of these devices for drying nappies and other items of essential clothing.
Next question ...
Yes, I'll have it - what is it?

Looks like the top section of a Discone antenna (wide-band aerial). It may have a coax connection up the centre of the tube
