Access forbidden to Durham Mining Museum

When I try to access www.dmm.org.uk, I get the following error message

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/1.3.27 Server at www.dmm.org.uk Port 80

Is the Durham site blocking servers from outside the UK?

If not, any ideas how I can solve the problem?

Work for me, and my internet connection at work goes out through the Netherlands, so it doesn't seem to be regional.

Well, at least I now know who to ask when I want something from the website 😉

Tried it on my PC, my wife's PC, my laptop and our son’s Mac -
always the same error - maybe they don't like our provider (T-Online).

Had something similar the other day - trying to contact West Yorkshire Archive Services - my email with .de for Germany bounced off their server, but my alternative email (ancient netscape.net) got through without any bother.

Somebody must have mentioned the war 😉

Has it worked from there before on the same connection?

First step might be to clear all cookies from the PCs.

If all the computers connect through the same router then try forcing it to make a new connection. On mine I'd do that by turning it off/on. A little nerve-wracking as it can take up to 15 mins to get back on the net. Will leave that to your discretion!

All cookies removed - pulled the plug to set up a new connection (no problems with either LAN or WLAN after reconnection, though my missus wasn't pleased at all at me stopping her Facebook addiction for 10 minutes) 🙂

Problem still exists.

Something else altogether now, secretleeds.com seems to have been down all day as well.

Yes, looks like someone forgot to pay their bill for the domain.

I'm in Portugal and I also can not access the DMM site. There is a DMM2 site also which I can not access as well as any other site connected with he museum. I was doing some research about my dad's uncle, H M Hudspeth H.M. Divisional Inspector of Mines. During the 1st World War he oversaw the digging of tunnels under the trenches and for the largest non nuclear explosions in war time. I have heard that there are large lakes in Belgium created by these explosions. Perhaps someone wants to prevent some nasty people in Afghanistan getting any ideas?

try it through a proxy...

does seem to be something regional going on as the server has got big blocks of IP addresses restricted

google 'free proxy servers' there hundreds.

I tried a couple of american proxies and got the 403 error.
