Hi all,
I was in Cambrian mine last night and was wondering what's happened to the entrance into the Glyn Cerriog side of the mine from the waterfall. The former entrance (where you had to step over some debris then down into the mine) is completely gone, and looking at it it seems several fairly large slabs have come down there. Does anyone know when that happened (I haven't been in there for over a year!). The stream seems to have been dug out as well- I don't know if the two were connected or not?

I also noticed the entrance into the rest of the mine (the short crawl in the stream) is looking increasingly unstable- it's collapsing in from the top so currently a lot of the stream water is diverting into the crawl but it's also bringing down the rock with it. In the long run this may actually make it safer once all the rock there's down (although it may then need some digging out again!) but for now do take care going in there.

Must have happened in the last few months... wasn't like that at Namho. That's a shame. I think someone's been doing work around that entrance as there used to be a lot of debris around there but it was definitely cleared away at some point earlier this year. I wonder if this work had destabilised the entrance?

We weren't sure whether the entrance into the Aberllas side of the workings (the one in the stream) was actually collapsing or if someone had removed rock from above... There didn't appear to be much rock inside the entrance considering the size of the hole above.

The exit into Martins Quarry from the Tan-y-Foel workings has been slipping for a while. I don't have the knowledge to do anything about it, other than to wait until it's finished moving, and clear it out afterwards.

I use the other exit, through the "Mist chamber", even though you get to fight through the undergrowth once into Martins. I prefer that, as going under that slab knowing how much it's moved, gives me the heebie jeebies...

To be honest- given the amount that's come down it's actually made getting in the place much easier, but i wouldn't want to stand around under there for long. 😞 It may well just be due to freeze/thaw affecting it- given how much ice was on there last year!

Cat_bones is right about the rock dropping on the other entrance, we didn't have to crawl over any extra rock either so i don't know what's going on, but there is now a hole above the crawl so a lot of the stream comes down on your head! 😮

I don't trust it, it's still moving, and I don't want to chance being under it if it decides to move at that second in time.

Knowing you, that's a positive outcome!

Looking at where the hole is in the crawl (and it's a brief look, I'm not keen on being in that part of the quarry, under that much spoil, with some iffy looking rails holding the whole shooting match up), there's a "bendy" rail directly under it... was weight removed from it for that reason?

I doubt it simply because it'd been like that for several years and i don't think anything extra had shifted over it- although i might be wrong (it was dark when we were there!)!
