OK folks 🙂 Those who are coming to Conglog tonight (will only be a short trip)...

How does 6.30pm in the carpark below Cwmorthin sound?

Walking up to Conglog will take about 25 minutes, hour or so underground, back down to the cars and then to the pub (Queen's in Blaenau unless anybody has any other ideas) to plan future Thursday night missions 🙂

Sorry for the late reply, I've been really busy with work

Sinker, i have to work late for the next two weeks in work. Please do keep these trips running though as i leave my job in two weeks and will be able to attend no problem.

I haven't been to Conglog either yet! 😢

:o

It might for some people, but for the more mature of us I fear it might take just a bit longer. It's a bit over 2 km with 200 m of ascent - so I guess 45-50 minutes might be more realistic.

However, that still gives us plenty of time and the weather looks pleasant for the evening, so I hope to be there.

Ok!

Simonrl & Davel: See you there!
Suboffender: No problems, keep in touch and when you are free the offer of a lift stands.
Skimble: Got your PM thanks. As above, if you can make it next time then the lift is there.
Pub: Not much choice in Blaenau these days? Manod closed, Wynns too far, Commercial closed, is the Meirion still open? Not sure.....Queens it is then!

I would come but need to be paid before I can buy any diesel to get there! 😞 Plus a friend has bribed me with a big pie 🙂 and beer to look after her little one.
Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.

Meirion is indeed still open. In fact it is the people from the Meirion that now run the Queens.
The Commercial is technically open again but from what I've heard it isn't being run great and isn't particularly to be recommended.

http://www.aditnow.co.uk/community/viewtopic.aspx?p=85692#msg85692

Threw a few ideas around, Diffwys (probably good for 2 evenings), Wrysgan (also probably good for 2 evenings), Bwlch y Plwm, Pantywrach Copper Mine, Catherine & Jane Consols, Cwmorthin upper floors (3 and 4 above lake level). I'm sure there are plenty - been meaning to start revisiting some of the more obscure slate sites for a while.

Going to suggest Diffwys for next week unless any other ideas?

Despite my misgivings I'm pleased to be able to report that Simon's estimate was closer than mine. It took us about 28 minutes - though I have to admit I was puffing a bit at the top of the first uphill bit from the car park.

Bwlch y Plwm is a great idea. Also how about Maenofferen (if it is possible to get underground there), it isn't too bad a walk up there.

Dave your more fit & agile than most people on this forum, 'rat up a drainpipe' springs to mind!
I hope to join in the next week all depending on which part of the country I get sent to that day 😢

Er ... I think you must be thinking of a different Dave. :-[

Actually, the secret is to select carefully the people you go out with so that favourable comparisons can be made. :sneaky: Mind you, I think I made a mistake trying to keep up with Simon while trying to carry on a normal conversation on the first bit up from the car park - and there's certain people on here who leave me in the dust (they know who they are).

That first haul up the hill is deceptively steep!!
I always walk on ahead and don't waste energy talking, then when I get to the top I look super-fit :smartass: .....until people see my shoulders heaving up and down and I can't speak!

I don't mind - but best see what others say. 7.00 for 7.15 is likely 8.00 by the time we've got underground.
