My vote is for Rescue Organisations, plural.

I think that supporting societies is fraught with difficulty (even moreso than a rescue organisation), with choosing and justifying.

I would agree aswell actually. After all its the rescue people we want on our side more than historical society's :flowers:

not that i want to set off an argument, but we do need the societys too, they're often the ones looking after the mines we explore.
however, that doesn't help the orriginal question of where the money goes!

i agree with chrisjc,personally i think the answer is pretty straightforward,yes we need society's such as cathms/pdmhs but they do pretty well from membership fees etc,Rescue Organisations on the other hand only survive from fundraising and the odd hand out,so if it was me i would support a rescue team in a area active with mine explorers such as cumbria/derbyshire/wales.......simple. :thumbup:

I agree with a lot of the comment re organisations such as PDMHS, no disrespect to it, I am a member anyway.

Rescue organisations, a big yes, but what about charitable heritage trusts such as Welsh Mines Preservation Trust?

WMPT gives enormous bang for bucks; you only have to look at some of the work that they have done so far and what it cost. No ‘consultants’ on the payroll you see.

I have only just caught up with this thread.

Whilst I would agree that profits should go to Air Ambulance/ Rescue Organisations. If consideration was given to making a donation in addition to the above to the preservation side of the mining community, the Trust could make good use of a small donation.

As Roy says we do not employ Consultants (or any one ); all our work is carried out by members (and friends) at their own expense. We have been fortunate in the recent past to have received grants from CADW - Penyclun Engine House Restoration, Ceredigion County Council's Spirit of the Miners Project, Environment Agency Wales - Pont Ceunant Generating Station (Frongoch), CCC's PLWM Project - Ystrad Einion.

At present we are hoping to be able to have some involvement with the RCAHM (W) in the new Metal Links Project.

As some of you will know our current projects are at Dylife with Michael Brown and at Cwmbyr.

Two is probably enough to be honest.

Assuming the calendar sells as well as it did last year (which it ought to :thumbsup: unless anything untoward happens!) then it'll raise about £600 to £700 which split four ways would be pretty thin 😞

I still think it would be best to support one "preservation project" and one RO.

WMPT seems a good suggestion.

So how about 50/50 as previous years. Which RO could be decided by a poll?

I quite like the idea of supporting a charitable trust e.g. WMPT. Similar to in the past with KMPT.

Could even suggest that in conjunction with WMPT some funds could go to repairing the flat rods at Cwm Cipwrth?

Certainly if that were the case the CRO ought to be outside of N Wales so we'd be looking at COMRU, MCRO, DCRO, SMWCRT, SMRT, SERCO

I think this needs some direction as the debate as to where the money is to go could be a very long one. I think Simon should decide as to count WMPT as one of the places (or some where else) and then set up a poll for the CRO's. I think everyone will agree that the money will end up going to good causes and Simon is as good a judge as anyone as to whats going on in the general mining community :flowers:

we now have a list of organisations. Why don't we vote it based on them and the top two take it for this year. For fairness- voting really should be limited to people buying the callendars!!!

currently we have:

if we end up with ties- we simply have a knockout vote!!
howabout we say there's one more week to suggest organisations, and then we vote over the following week- otherwise this will go on for ages! i don't mind counting up the votes at the end of that and if we don't have two clear winners, sorting out the rematch between them!
