I don't know whether it's of any interest but there are four photos of miners tools used whilst working the Comstock lode, Nevada, in the 19th century. Probably by Cornish or Irish immigrants. I rather like the bathtub.

My uncle was a miner at Ryhill. Outside his house was hung a tin bath and he was not allowed into the house till he had washed up every day. This was before the pit head baths.
I think he worked at Lodge's pit which was an adit access.

Oddly I can remember my Grandfather on my mums side coming home from the pit and still having a tin bath in 1970 as the council had not got round to upgrading the pit houses they lived in, and he didn't like showering at the pit because it was only a short walk home and he liked a smoke and soak!!! 😉 .

Still got all my other Grandads underground tools inc 2 Butterley Co Portland Clly stamped pics, 3 marked hammer, steels and wedges,..... The tools have been carefully monogrammed with an ID mark sometimes in several places as people would steal your tools occasionally and according to Grandad you paid for your replacements.

I suppose we have to assume that none of the miners had prehensile feet.

I remember this being a particular problem with tunnel miners in the 1980s - they would hide favoured tools such as cut-down hammers or shovels. Jigger picks were always a problem that way as well.
