Was just wondering if anybody has done the through trip lately, as we are doing it on 3rd April and wondered what state the in situ gear is like at the moment 🙂

Some changes since the last time you did it I think!

1st rope - OK, just make sure you check it on the way down

2nd rope - OK, but again take care, especially going over the edge part way down, rope protectors very worn

1st zipwire - fine

Ladder bridge - back in situ :thumbsup: so no need of a boat here

1st bridge - fine, ropes tidied :)

2nd zipwire - fine

2nd bridge - fine, some re-rigging and tidying been done, note the 2nd part of the crossing (the zip wire) is re-rigged so it hangs down lower, easier to get on but you do rather have to haul yourself across

CoH / boating chamber - new raft in situ, however in case of any problems would recommend taking a rubber dinghy as a backup

Speedy, Ed and the others been very busy with all the changes there.

A few people who post here did it last weekend so maybe somebody can add to this if the above isn't spot-on (I last did it about 5 weeks ago)

I'm not 100% sure whether there is a fixed rope on the first pitch at the moment, so ensure you have a rope with you 😉

Do you know the rope lengths by any chance...

I believe both pitches are around 80-90ft

We did it on the 19th and the first rope is missing. i'm not sure how long that pitch is- anyone else know?

The general theory is that they're 80' but I suspect they may be a little less than that, assuming that they're a drop of one floor (plus a bit).

By the way- don't trust the raft!!! It's very unstable, and the only person in our group who tried it promptly capsized ending very cold and soaked through (he went completely under). My advice would be to stick to the good ol' "take an inflatable boat technique"!

It didn't help that he was 'helped out' of Rhosydd the wrong way afterwards either!! I blame it on the navigation, what do you think Rockchick?!

In addition to the previous comments on in-situ gear, the rope on the final short ascent is getting very moth eaten at the top aswell. As for the first pitch, it is only about 65' at the most, but you will need at least an 85'-90' rope to rig it, including the back up.

The raft is very stable if you trust it and sit in the middle :tongue:

If you wobble about it is the same as any other craft and will go over. My mate and I were playing on it for about an hour on a local river before we brought it down and we were bone dry :flowers:

Have just done the through trip again Sunday 3rd April, 15 of us in total and a good day was had by all :thumbsup: .
Re in situ gear, the ropes on the first 2 pitches had already been replaced when we got in there so they are both in good condition and to whoever....nice job with the rope protectors as it certainly makes it easier now. Also the bridge on the first lake makes things a lot easier as no dinghy to faff with 🙂 .
The rest of the gear is ok the only think we did do was to replace the rope and traverse line on the up climb from the last lake and take the old rope out with us.
