LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's Serious Fraud Office on Wednesday said it had made five arrests as part of an investigation into allegations of fraud related to the sale of four mines in South Wales.

Five people were arrested in South Wales, London and Birmingham on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud in South Wales, and were later released on bail, the SFO said, adding that eight premises were searched.

The SFO press release uses the term "four mine sites" which seems to broaden the matter to possibly involve non-active mines.

Since Scotland is producing more coal than ever from opencast activity I would suggest it could also be related to an opencast.

Possibly John Lawson is on the right track with opencasts,

Radio Wales this evening,
Apparently 2 Solicitors with M+A Solicitors in Cardiff have been questioned also mention of 2 of Celtic Energy`s Directors possibly involved with this sale of mining sites.

I know for a fact that it is open cast mining being investigated.
One of the arrested has a very invested interest in a certain new racecourse.......which was an open cast mine!!!!!
