Grambler and St.Aubyn near St.Day.
I drove past this grand old enginehouse today and was taken aback at the condition it has fallen into.
I dare say the last spell of freezing weather only helped to accelerate its decay.
My worry is that in this present time of cutbacks in grants to councils the whole thing will be in danger of falling down before next winter.
I believe (?) the building does fall within the world heritage boundary and should therefore be scheduled for preservation,
unless of course that budget has also been slashed.
This building is high on my list of favourite enginehouses and its condition is verging on being a danger to the nearby cottages and passing traffic.

In Shropshire we are in regular touch with English Heritage and they do have funds to maintain scheduled buildings of this age it just needs people to work with thm to get things done

Assuming it is a SAM the owners can be forced to carry out the repairs

I have also noticed alot of damage to Engines house and have posted a few photos a few months ago.
What I am unsure of is who is reponsible for maintaining them (if anybody) and if they have any funds to do anything.
I get the impression if they are not in a restored area or pose no threat to paths or people because they are isolated, that nothing is likely to be done quickly.

If it is in the world heritage site it might be worth contacting the WHS team - they are based at Old County Hall in Truro. Ainsley Cox is probably your man.

I went to look at Richard's / Hawke's shaft on Killifreth after hearing that a chunk of masonry had dropped out. I walked all round it inside and out but the only thing in evidence was a couple enjoying some 'al fresco' 😮 :oops:

Yep. I spoke to the bloke ages ago about dropping the shaft. Another one we haven't got around to going back to.

He was a bit cagey IIRC. But then again, having some dodgy looking cavemen rock up wanting to know about your holes probably would set people off.

I would suggest that what has happened here is the ivy has dropped away. If the photo is super sized the damage to the top of the stack can be seen, this shot was taken forty years ago.
Just a point of interest, a young engineer was sent here by Michells of Redruth to measure the engine prior to movement to another site. He stepped onto the bob plat which gave way and he fell onto the condenser and was killed
