Its name escapes me right at this minute..... I can tell you several ones that it's not though!

EDIT - it's Intake quarry, the middle one of the three on Middleton moor (Hoptonwood and Killers being the other two)

after looking at the album for intake quarry i see allot of things that don't marry up with the photos i took.
the gate is not the same ,the place is not as overgrown and there is allot of buildings that are of modern build and even a cement plant in part of the quarry

do you still think its intake quarry ?my wife thinks we were near matlock if that helps ,

If there's a working quarry close at hand then it's not Intake, all the active working on Middleton Moor went underground some time ago. It could be Grange Mill quarry - did you come across a pub called the Holly Bush nearby?

cant tell you but we drove up the hill a few miles an started to hit the signs for Alton towers. their was a pub that had a camp site on it ,and did a carvery on the way home,and we did turn at a pub before that but dont know the names

All that tells me is that you've headed down towards Ashbourne at some point, and there are a lot pubs a)with camps sites and b) doing carveries - if you can give me any names I might be able to help further, but all I can add is that I'm certain it's not Dene quarry, but Ballidon quarry is a further possibility for where you've been.

That makes a big difference, the hill is Chelmorton Low which means you're nowhere near Matlock here, this is Hindlow quarry, just outside of Buxton - I'm guessing you pulled up on the road from Brierlow bar over to Longnor, which would also explain why you started seeing Alton towers signs if you carried straight on through Longnor - you might have gone near Cauldon Low quarries too, that's another big 'un.....

Looking at that last picture I would endorse AR's location. In fact you are stood in the quarry at Hindlow looking across at the new graded spoil heap that Lhoist are doing. It's that orangery coloured soil that can be seen if you look at a Google map view of the area. I might be wrong but you may well have come in from the other end which is Hillhead, where they had a quarry exhibition recently.

Beyond the orange coloured spoil heap is Chelmorton Low. The England chalk wording was put there to support England's World Cup foray. Below the England there is also a Cross of St George but in recent weeks it has faded somewhat. The whole thing was organised by Phil Swindell's of Chelmorton. As an aside if you look to the right of the photo while zoomed out you can quite clearly see the strip farming arranged around the village. Apparently this is a good example for those who know about these things :confused:

Its Hillhead Quarry, The concrete batching plant was in the show the other week its due to be removed shortly 😉
