NPHT at Nenthead Mines are planning to establish an underground training and education programme with topics for everyone, and especially for those new to Mine Exploring. We would aim to develop and encourage 'best practice' amoungst those exploring underground, and especially those visiting the Nenthead Mines complex.

We would like to arrange a series of perhaps 6 weekends a year over the next two years. Each weekend would have a theme with lectures, talks, demonstrations and seminars on the Saturday, followed by practical underground exploration on the Sunday.

Accommodation would be in our own bunk houses.

Themes could include:
Equipment, Access & Legalities, Archaeology and conservation, Mine hazardss & incident management, Basic surveying, Basic rigging, Personal SRT, Underground photography, Geology, Social history

It could also be possible to arrange one day events, or a series of evening events along similar lines, or bespoke events for clubs and groups.

Any and all comments, suggestions, ideas would be welcome at this planning stage

Getting a bit too old for very active underground activity but would be keen to attend the other aspects, especially photography, geology, archaeology, hazards etc.

Sounds a great idea, possible some of my friends would also be interested.
