LIFTING THE LID ON BOX HILL

CENTRAL , AMMUNITION DEPOT CORSIIAM
Have you ever wondered what was underneath the heavily guarded military establishment in Corsham, Wiltshire?

Have you ever wondered why there was an extra railway tunnel alongside Box Railway tunnel?

Have you ever heard the myth about the country's emergency reserve of steam locomotives stored underground?

If you have, then this is the programme for you!

With the kind co-operation of the Ministry of Defence we are able to lift The Secret Lid' on Box Hill and take you on an exclusive tour of Tunnel Quarry, Corsham, Wiltshire.

Tunnel Quarry was one of the United Kingdom's Central Ammunition Depots. Conceived in the mid 1930's to hide from the enemy over 100,000 tons of bombs, shells, cordite and small arms, ammunition that the country depended upon to win the second world war.

Under the leadership of the Royal Engineers, over 100 acres of underground passageways and chambers were converted into an amazing twin platform underground railway station, engine shed, powerhouse, miles of conveyer belting, slope shafts, admin offices, barrack blocks, engineering shops and surface loading building.

Operated by a staff of over 2,000 Royal Army Ordnance Corps, Pioneer Corps and civilians from its opening in 1938 until its closure in 1966.

Filming also took place in Spring Quarry to view the wartime murals, and Browns Quarry in the former No 10 Fighter Command wartime control room.

I would grab this genuine offer asap - the company producing this film has ceased trading and sadly they will no longer be available - Tony is being extremely generous :happybday:

What do you expect a VHS tape probably fills the lounge in TO's exceptionally small house!!
