Originally this building was about twice this height.
There is an old picture somewhere of it in its original form, if I remember righty tubs were lifted up the outside of the building and tipped into the mill and processed down by gravity.
I was told that this is the worlds 1st steel and concrete framed building (not sure if this is entirely true, but it is possible I suppose)
There has been a long running campaign for grant funding to demolish the building and replace it with a more modern bus garage, even a local petition a couple of years ago (I indignantly refused to sign it πŸ˜‰ ).
Sadly the building is pretty much knackered, the steel work is apparently severely corroded where it is encased in concrete. Sadly it probably has a limited life left now

it will be a shame when it goes but it has seen better days and would need a lot of tlc to keep it standing

Nah, its been like that for over 10 years Bograt πŸ˜‰ honest.
Personally I would prefer to see it preserved (even at half hieght as it is now) than demolished and a non descript new building put up.
After all, Nenthead lost its carefully designed village centre, complete with clock tower, to make way for that building. It nicely sums up what Nenthead was all about

Jagman is quite right - I had to visit Wrights 20 odd years ago a couple of times on behalf of my then employer and was saddened by the neglect to the building. Had it not been for the odd bus parked about the place you could have assumed that it was already abandoned and derelict. The thing that sticks in my mind is that the tramway tracking was still in the floor - just the thing you need to help you fall flat on your face when you're carrying something heavy like a large battery ! 😞

If anyone is interested in old pics of the VM plant, I might have them somewhere. Also one were you can vaguely see the areal ropeway to Wellhope shaft.

Haven't posted them on here yet as I am not sure on the copyrights or where they came from.

Indeed it is kind of sad to see it all fall apart so quickly...

It would be great to see the old pictures, do you know if there were many pictures taken in the VM years?

I shouldn't think there will be any copyright problems.
