looking for a couple of MSA lamp brackets to fit the old fibreglass SkullGard style helmets - one as a wall hanger and one which lives in the Jeep for occasional use

these helmets are still in use in the US and the brackets are still listed, but I can't find one. A similar type aluminium bracket would serve, but not the flat Centurion type, they don't fit and leave your lamp pointing upwards

any offers?

I think Petzl do an angled lamp bracket & you can get em from Caving Supplies http://www.caving-supplies.co.uk/cgi-bin/psProdDet.cgi/13298%7C%7Clamp~bracket~@c~@b%7C0%7Cuser%7C1,0,0,1%7C22 , but I would check with them first 🙂

I have a whole host of odd caplamp bits, including a few different brackets. If you can find a picture of what it is you're looking for, I'll have a look and see if I've got one.

the old MSA ones are very distinctive, they are a round bakelite pedestal with a slot in the front

otherwise I think the Petzl ones would serve

I saw your pm but can't ( yet ) reply to it

the ones you describe are indeed the ones I was thinking of. From your description of the colour I'd guess they are quite old and could be seized onto the helmets, or the mounting screws be seized inside. They are best left as they are, but thanks anyway.

the brown resin MSA helmets are still in use in the US and you sometimes get them issued in the offshore industry, the full-brim hats are still popular there and hard to obtain. They are also popular with welding personnel because the smooth shell and 'waisted' peak on the cap-style ones means they are good for mounting face shields etc.

plus, the MSA hats actually fit properly and have a cold-weather hood which fits the lining, you'd think that would be more common than it is!

anyway I have acquired a couple of them from a recent job, and since I do sometimes wear a caplamp for tank entries and so forth, I thought it would be handy - and one would make a nice wall-hanger.

I've discovered an American caving shop which can supply them, so I have ordered a couple.
