Hi there guys, im new on this forum and new to mine explorations..

Recently ive come back from asia, visited some caves and am fascinated and love to do explorations.

Was wondering are there any caves/mines in Bedfordshire area or near Luton, or even Oxford. (I live in luton and oxford, studying at brookes)

And can i just go visit them,i have no idea how it works here. 🙂

Thank you.

I've got no idea what caves/ mines there are in the area, so I can't really help dirrectly, however I can point you in the direction of the people who will know...

I would recomend you get in touch with Oxford Uni caving club

http://www.oucc.org.uk/

I think I can safely say they are a friendly bunch and would be able to help you. I think they go underground most weekends so they'll know where's close by and you may well be able to get in on trips with them.

As far as access, this varies greatly with different places, some caves/ mines are locked, so you need a key, some caves need permits, some are free access. Other places are less friendly so you may need to be a little more imaginative with getting in... :sneaky:

there was a history of underground chalk mining at Hemel Hempstead and the surrounding area, but if any part of these survive in an accessible condition, I don't know about it.
