Not much of the mine on display here, as it was all underground. This is the entrance to J.H. Lead Mine in the Peak District.

A few old photos at Nenthead in the snow. I remember 6 to 8 foot snow drifts in the north pennines in the late 1980's when doing fieldwork for my Ph.D.

Minons in a Blizzard

A view taken from caradon looking towards the cheesewring. In view on the right is wheal Jenkins and in the distance on the left is Housemans engine house, (now the museum). This was taken on Friday 6th February in the morning, in heavy snow and blizzard conditions.

Remember this topic.... our Snowy pics competition.... just thought I'd come clean re my last photographs I posted on this... they were a pain literally.... getting the final photo below (which is ok but thats all .. hence not originally submitted) I slipped down a bunny hole with my right leg, fell over and broke my left ankle over the nearby curb stone!!! 😞 :curse: Still drove home on it, and walked hospital day after, who immediatley put me in pot for 6 weeks. Freedom finally occuring Friday just gone....so have been sat here for 6 weeks ripping my hair out....

Whats really crappy is I've never had so much as a scratch over 28 years of exploring and working in some dodgy environments

The offending pic below... Do I win the competition with the sympathy vote!! 😉

". Do I win the competition with the sympathy vote!!"

Nope. But as someone who is still suffering the effects of 'doing a number' on both knees. You do have my sympathy (along with an attempt at a sincere straight face).

Good to hear you're on the mend.

Walking up out of Nenthead to Smallcleugh lead mine for Sparty-Lea's guided tour. The snow was a foot deep in places, not easy going!

Cheers for the entries folks, some lovely ones there which will no doubt make choosing a winner very difficult!

I shall leave this open for another couple of weeks as I recall walking in 12" of snow in the hills last April and still hold out hope that the same will happen this year! 😮

Hello again darkness, my old friend...

Is winter over yet then Vanoord ;)

Apparently this competition is to blame for at least on injury incurred wandering around old mines sites in the snow 😮

Winter's maybe over but time for one more photo. Not included on merit but purely for the oddity of access being almost barred to a mine on a day when T-shirts sufficed.

Rather you than me. As ever there are some great photos submitted.
The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
