I've taken the above quote from a photo comment.

I don't know whereabouts on Grinton Moor Smales Gill Level is but I understood that Doctors Level was the wet, wide-ish level directly above Devis (due South) with a grotty decaying sump presumably on Wellington Vein or thereabout?

This young fellow is emerging from the adit I believe. No underground pics unfortunately.

The level in that photo I took is in Smales Gill
(although i've not see it named on any maps)

BM51 puts Doctors Level about a mile to the east, on the side of Glead Gill above Devis.

Top right - Devis Hole named
Bottom right - "Old Level" which BM51 says is Doctors
Bottom left - "Old Level" in my photo.

that definatly looks like doctors,theres only devis,how,doctors,that collapsed one next to how level,and west level,california, in the vicinity near grinton smelt mill,but I could be wrong,oh and the one in the gill below the road used by yorks water as a supply 🙂

Ignoring what it looks like for a moment, where is the Doctors Level you've visited located ?

If its in Gleed Gill to the SE of Devis then its not the level pictured in that photo.

I can 100% guarantee that photo was taken a mile away in Smales Gill.

Unfortunately I don't have a picture of both to compare.
I'll get one next time i'm up that way 🙂

I seem to remember doctors being,as you look at devis entrance its to the left and up abit! very wet waist deep as soon as you get in,it looks just like the one that young lads climbing out of,its an adit but you just drop straight into it,the whole area around there is boggy and about 100-150 yards above level entrance there is a big puddle of water 🙂

Yes, that's the one.

I think Chris' Smale Gill is off to the right somewhere as you walk up from the smelt mill. The shaft/sump in Doctors where the level hits the vein looks interesting and always meant to go back for a proper look but it looked a bit of a collapsing death-hole last time we looked...

Yep, the level in the photos isn't Doctors then.

I suspect its little more than a trial and probably doesn't even have a name, the tip was very small.
Small enough for me to not go inside for a soaking.

Its very close to the Redmire road if you want to splash-and-dash. Seems to line up with some shafts too.
