What did you get up to? Feel free to add your own photos of trips in 2008 :)

First up, SimonRL's photo of Sunday's trip to Moel Fferna, an excellent way to round off the year:

We will all be dead by then! Also, isn't 92 years a bit late for a review of this year?

Wonderful photos from LAP but I suppose if forced to choose it would have to be the sequence of the Black Angel Mine. Obviously not taken by me.

July 2008. Not sure if this counts. Sitting on the terrace of our house on Cyprus watching the sun go down after another day of 40 degrees + Celsius and sipping an ice cold beer.

[photo]Personal-Album-1213-Image-001[/photo]
Idly wondering if it's still raining in Nenthead and imagining the feeling of cold water slowly overflowing into my wellies at the Smallcleugh entrance.
Earlier I had walked down to our nearest Internet Cafe and logged onto Adit Now, but nothing new had happened. Most of the mines on Cyprus (and there are a few) are big holes in the ground, except one north of Larnaca which has a traditional adit entrance supported with steel arching British steel - style, but you need a 4x4 to get there. Rather sit out here getting toasted.
Only another 6 weeks to go ..... sorry. Until later this year, that is.

It was truly gorgeous up there on New Years Day.

I'll vote JamesL's picture of a flooded Harnisha Burn which I can't find now. That and a Saturday morning with nothing else to do helped me discover that the North Pennines were more than a place that you speed past on the way to the Lakes. 😉

I have edited my original posting. That was last year. Never fear, Nenthead/Weardale/Teesdale are still special places for me, both on the surface and underground, but UK summers are the pits. Global worming, give me a break.

An excellent set of photos from LAP, looks like you had a few good trips.

One of my aims, after signing up to Adit Now & ME, the very reason I decided to start underground exploration again after a very lengthy break, was to try and discover the old haunts from the 1980's.

One place in particular, an old favourite, was Long Rake spar mine in Derbyshire, last visited by me in 1988.

Although there have been many collapses of timbering in that time, you can, just about, explore a great deal of the mine, so I was glad to rediscover a couple of places very recently.

Especially this shot of the small ore wagon, taken in 1986 .

🔗Longrake-Calcite-Calcite-Mine-User-Album-Image-013[linkphoto]Longrake-Calcite-Calcite-Mine-User-Album-Image-013[/linkphoto][/link]

I finally found it again n December 2008,

🔗Longrake-Calcite-Calcite-Mine-User-Album-Image-109[linkphoto]Longrake-Calcite-Calcite-Mine-User-Album-Image-109[/linkphoto][/link]

And it is the same explorer now aged 62 in the wagon.

Another spot was the great stope, very badly lit in 1986,

🔗Longrake-Calcite-Calcite-Mine-User-Album-Image-040[linkphoto]Longrake-Calcite-Calcite-Mine-User-Album-Image-040[/linkphoto][/link]

I finally got round to photograhing this stope late December 2008, and quite by chance took almost the exact same shot without realising it, although the lighting has got better.

🔗Longrake-Calcite-Calcite-Mine-User-Album-Image-101[linkphoto]Longrake-Calcite-Calcite-Mine-User-Album-Image-101[/linkphoto][/link]

So all in all,I can say I've had a really good first years exploring.
The management thanks you for your co operation.

A couple more:

Under the Hoover Dam:

Parys mountain - a great day out, although I think SimonRL may have bent the truth a bit when he said "all the tunnels are at least seven feet high"
