Just got back from Tesco at Pool, Redruth, and the 50% sale includes the 'D' cell LED torch. Although not the best model in the series, for £9.00 it's good enough to have one rolling about in the car.
It's a pity the AA model hasn't been reduced from £8.00 to £4, or I would have come out with a basket full 🙂 🙂

Eek, at those prices you can't really fault them as a general purpose hand torch can you?

That's for sure! Although I think the claim of 4 Watts is a little optimistic.
Nontheless, for the price I couldn't leave it there. There's quite a few component parts to this model with screw threaded rings galore and a large monobloc lens. Interesting how they can afford to sell them at that price, and more so, how much they are sold to Tesco for. I dread to think how much it would cost to make the same thing here, and what the final cost would be to the consumer. 😮

Possibly not, althought i've only measured the 3W 'C' cell type it drew 0.98A @ 3V making just under 3W!
An exelleny buy all the same.

although i've found they do need a little bit of attention

I agree, but only if you can supply a constant 3.2 Volts. With currents close to 1 Amp for the AA model and around 1.27A for the D cell model the voltage drops away pretty quickly. A pity they didn't spend a couple of quid extra and have a current management circuit built in.
Still I cant find anything as good for the price anywhere else, so hats off to Tesco for making mine exploration cheaper. ( Tesco and mine exploring in the same sentence....It's a funny old world!)

Oh I don't know Roy, Is Pool Tescos plonked on the top of Tincroft?
