There are a couple of interesting videos, DVDs which might appeal to some of you. While their distribution is somewhat limited at present they are IMHO worth having.

Both are by the same author/producer. Dave Webb. The first is called the "The Hollow Hill", and has been produced to support the work done by the Ecton Field Studies Centre by whom it was commissioned. The underground footage is excellent and while narrated by Dave, it features John Barnatt and Len Kirkham as your underground guides.

The second might not be a mine purist's cup of tea but is nevertheless to do in part with mining. Its called "Titan from Above". For those who are unaware of Titan and for those Yorkshire folk still in denial at loosing an underground record ;-)) Titan is the UK's tallest natural vertical shaft.

After having read and heard stories of vast underground caverns in the Castleton area of Derbyshire, a team led by Dave "Moose" Nixon, researched and finally re-discovered this huge vertical shaft accessed from its base via mine workings. Having explored the extents of the system, the team decided it might be possible to create a through trip via the John Hall and Speedwell Mine systems. And so began a quest that took nearly 4 years to complete. Dave Webb was fortunately on hand to record the trials of this epic dig. Again the underground sequences are excellent and the story is well told.

The Ecton video can be bought via the EHFSA web site. http://www.ectonhillfsa.org.uk/index_files/Page499.htm

The Titan DVD goes on sale this week via all the usual retail outlets, Caving Supplies, Hitch 'n Hike, Bernie's, Inglesport etc.

If anyone has difficulty in obtaining any of the above PM me and I'll see what I can arrange with Dave.

Peter.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
