Had an interesting walk along the Rookhope Smelt Mill chimney. Is anyone doing any research on this chimney or has anyone published any work?

The chimney has an interesting series of small reservoirs alongside, the remains of a structure which might have been a condenser, and the remains of a chimney base which seems to have cable anchors for two corners.

seem to recall seeing a few bits relating to the flue and chimney, can't remember where though, I beleive English Heritage did something a few years back.

The small reservoirs, probably for the periodic flushing of the flue.

not been up there for a while, usually all dry but there's been a lot of the wet stuff here the last few weeks, there's a few collapsed shafts from lintzgarth level that run that way so maybe a few of those flooded at present as well

Only very basic information about Rookhope/Lintzgarth on the 'Pastscape' website which allows access to the English Heritage archive.

Yes, I'll have it - what is it?

Just off the top of my head and without knowing the site, could the small reservoirs point to a Stokoe condenser having been used on the flue?

just remembered.... Alan Blackburn, lives at the old nursery did a load of research and possibly wrote a paper on it maybe 10 years back. I believe he also has a rather large collection of photos too

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
