It's a bucket excavator used IIRC to mine lignite in Germany.
Big innit!

There's a huwge lignite (low grade coal) seam in Germany and this is what is used to remove the overburden.

I seem to remember seeing on DISCOVERY channel (back in the day when I had a tv) a prog called "massive machienes that showed the whole process.

It might be worth watching out for (sky viewers, they often have things on a 3 month or so rolling repeat cycle) or seeing if its downloadable from somewhere on t'internet

Not bad I suppose, when you think of the effort & lives expended to put Krupps out of business 60 yrs ago- I wonder how many UK companies could still produce engineering like that, especialy to mine a fuel so "ungreen" as lignite 😞

Ahhhh, it looked as if it was driving across a dual carriageway and indeed it is!

Presumably it had to be moved from one side to t'other and 'twas easier to cover the road with sand.
Hello again darkness, my old friend...

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
