Hi everyone,

I am new to this site and currently doing research as to when the Mines Rescue Station in Houghton le Spring, Tyne and Wear opened.

I know it was in 1913, but I cannot find the day or month that it was opened.

Any information you have on this would be greatly appreciated, or if you know where I could find this information.

Thank you

Why not ring/email them and ask, I'm sure someone would know and they are a genuinely helpful bunch too! ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, an interesting thought, but not actually correct!

Had a dig around bt couldn't come up with a date.
I did however find this diagram of the station that may be of interest.

It depends on whether you include the smallmines as well as the deep pits.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
