Anyone who has noticed the strange white fungi that can be found on old rotting timbers (and discarded sandwiches) many be interested in this website http://cambriancavingcouncil.org.uk/cavelife/index.html

Whilst it particularly focuses on caves (as its name suggests), the site has much that will be of interest to mine explorers as well.

Fungi etc was cleared off the timbers in slate mines with a huge paraffin blowlamp. I think they tried all kinds of methods to get rid of it, but the minature flame thrower had the best results.
Bellach dim ond swn y gwynt yn chwibian, lle bu gynt yr engan ar cynion yn tincian.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
