The annual open day for Keswick Mining Museum is on Sunday, March 9.
The day starts at 10 am prompt, with a short guided walk to Glenderaterra mine (2 hours duration, park near Blencathra centre, Blease Road, Threlkeld), before returning to Keswick for the opening of the museum at 1 pm, light refreshments will be served.
For those who don’t know the museum, it’s packed full of plans, pictures and (I’ve got to say it…) artefacts & minerals from Cumbria’s rich mining past, there is also a huge collection of new and secondhand books.
Everyone is welcome, a number of old miners & quarrymen usually come along, as well as mine explorers & historians.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
