Hi, it's a long shot but does anyone know of or have a 2 bulb headset for sale ?
It's the keyway charging type. Similar to an Oldham I'm looking for if anyone can help.
Thanks in advance.
Nick.

Just checked. The ones I have that I thought were Ceag are actually Youle, but have some others which have no makers name but are Oldham GT headsets or clones and have main bulb holders that attach to the positive terminal block, separate pilot holders.

I also have some 2 bulb holders which look like a narrow strip with 2 MES threaded holes for main and pilot, same +V block attaching.
These may have come from some conversions I did for PJs Nenthead Mines. If he reads this he may be able to confirm or otherwise.
But sorry, no complete headsets.

PJ here - these were conversions of FX2 headsets. We have some complete FX2 headsets at Nenthead with decent reflectors. Screw fit bulbs. May not have through the headset charging internals, but the casing and the key slots are all there. (The FX2 charged direct to the battery) Happy to swap or trade for a small donation to NMCS.

From servicing them.
The FX headset is a poor copy look-alike of the Oldham.
While it looks very similar the springs and contacts are of low quality and the plastic body is less robust.

Thanks for all the replies, I have some fx headsets here and I agree they're a bit fragile looking. The Youle headset may be similar to the Ceag by the sound of it, would it be possible to send a photo of the lamp holders if I send my email by PM please ?

correct, I never liked the Speleo headsets either, plastic & moulding seems crap compared to the Oldham ones..FX batteries take some beating though! I changed several headsets out for Oldham ones on FX cables, bulbs can be different voltage depending on the Speleo model though.

Carter, if you can hang on for a week or so I should be able to find you one or two genuine Oldham ones...

Hi Somersetminer, I have a few new Oldham sets in my spares box but never liked the flimsy wire connection to the main lamp. The Ceag has a brass bush which screws into the reflector to hold the lamp and this clips into a plate in the headset. Very tough and touch wood, it's never let me down. I should have bought stocks of spares before caving supplies had the big clear out.
Thank you for the offer all the same though.

Yes, its a thin white wire soldered onto the brass ring isnt it, I can see what you mean there. However its an easy fix if needed :)
The other sort had an MES socket with two 'arms' running back to the main connector block, I may have spares for this if you let me know which bits you need

Sorry to keep doing this but I've got some oldham mes headsets here too. Had far too many lamps and parts here but managed to offload some last year. Thanks again for the offer.
I've put a pic of my headset in my album on here (at least I think I have)
Showing the main lamp holder set up. Been searching for a youle pic to compare but no luck yet.

I know a man who has a big stock of headsets (used). I will call in and have a look for a Ceag - probably mid-March

That design although heavy, was bombproof and did not suffer the problems of the Oldham design that had a wire soldered to the brass collar.

I agree, a really tough headset. Got an ancient oldham aluminium outer bezel on it too, as you say, bombproof 🙂
