Hi , as title suggests if any body has a few spares in ok condition I could pay a fair price. I have just moved and managed to lose a big bag of gear:-[Brothers not happy). Thankfully not the lamps but before I start on the fleabay trail it has prompted me to get on here. Thanks K;D

Kate i would be a bit weary about buying a second hand harness? You dont know how much it has been used...etc even if it looks good to the eye.

Hey Carlin,

You raise a great point, You are talking sense but my last harness was from a couple who bought it for weeks holiday in Austria barely came out packet and said never again. It was mint until I got it and used it about 216 times ! I know plenty people in the past who shelled out for all the top gear then changed mind. Always worth a go ?

If you *know* and trust the person telling you it's only had a days use and no falls? Yup, no problem, my entire backup SRT kit is from a mate... I know it's history though.

Random ebay seller looking to make a few quid? Yeah, not something I'd want to worry about 200ft above a hard floor or flooded shaft.

Second hand vertical gear is a tricky subject.

Personally I have no problem with used ironwork such as jammer's etc. I consider that I have enough experience to assess whether a bit of kit is fit for use having played around with it for twenty odd years.

I wouldn't touch a used harness / sling etc., that is a personal choice. New harnesses can be had for say £50 - £100 which imho is a reasonable price to pay for the core of your vertical system. Arguably peace of mind is beyond price.

You might get lucky and find a wannabee who has bought all the kit used it once, didn't like it and wants to sell.

If you do go down the used route be hyper critical and be prepared to bin kit you are not 100% happy with.

End of sermon

I have a few bits of 2nd hand gear and its all good because I know how to check it and reject anything worn or suspect. Knowing who had it before you goes a long way towards your peace of mind.
Which brings me onto the main point.....
I have an excellent Singing Rock caving harness going spare. It had seen little serious use so try it and see how it suits. Let me know when you can join a Thursday night trip and I'll bring it along.

Its amazing how people who insist on brand new gear then never clean it. Buying old rope really would be crazy ! Sinker thank you for the sensible offer. I think we share the same thoughts on non brand new stuff. Looking at the next few weeks I can do the Thurs 24th sept and the week after for sure. Happy to collect in person from anywhere within 20 miles of Llandudno if it makes easy .
