Hi, i am looking to buy my first miners lamp. I am looking for an original one, not a replica. I would prefer one from a Scottish colliery.
Anyone have one for sale?
Dave

First advice, avoid these
They are new, tourist replica rubbish

This is an honest deputies lamp with a re-lighter which is what most people start with.
It will run on petrol lighter fuel.

Un-used, BUT the brass top was made more for presentation.

An SL type which was used by ordinary workers, but more difficult to light.

Scan E-bay & ask on here, we will see that you get a good one.

Hi there sl type lamps could only be lit in the lamproom.Your best lamps are as said self lighting or a type 1a,which is a flat wick and can be lit and the base screwed on without the lamp going out.

Dave, if you go for a "Protector" lamp from ebay & aren't sure about it, drop me a PM & I'll be happy to give it the once over (or any lamp for that matter) Protector Co produced a great many tourist type lamps & there are also a good many "wrong uns" that were built up by lamproom staff, out of old parts, as the pits shut. I've almost 45yrs flame lamp collecting experience, so have an idea what's what.
Regards, John...
Huddersfield, best value for money in the country, spend a day there & it'll feel like a week........
