A new event has been added to the Events page.

Event name: Moel Fferna Photography Trip

Date & time: 19/02/2011 at 10:00

Details: Something of an annual pilgimage to Moel Fferna; plus with a few people specifically asking for a dedicated photo trip this seemed a good mine to visit.

Moel Fferna is an unusual slate mine in being a near horizontal slate vein, and with no walk-in access it's nicely preserved with a good range of specific photo opportunities including winches, the bridge and some really amazing chambers.

Trip will be a full day with a good mix of exploration and plenty of chance for photography.

A bump for this trip and instructions on where to meet etc :)

EDIT - SEE LOWER IN THE THREAD FOR MEET UP LOCATION

It's on the left hand side of the road travelling in the Corwen to Llangollen direction and is a couple of hundred yards from the turning up to the mine.

I think this is no longer a derelict pub and is now a non-derelict pub, so once we've met up we'd probably better move the cars to somewhere else (possibly the big layby below Penarth).

Equipment needed: mine exploring gear, harness (for lifelining), cowstails, full SRT if you prefer not to use the electron ladder 😉

Camera - it's a photo trip right? :lol:

Does anybody have a tripod I could borrow for Saturday please :lol: 😞 I left mine behind with somebody else on the Cwmorthin lamplight trip :lol:

IMPORTANT - MEET UP LOCATION

Thanks to DaveL for the info - apparently the no-longer-derelict pub carpark was fenced off last time he went past.

With that in mind, here is the new meet up location; 10AM here:

It's a layby on the right hand side of the road when travelling towards Llangollen. It's further along the A5 than the pub, and a bit beyond Glyn Dyfrdwy.

Doesn't look like it has any parking restrictions (the one below Penarth is limited to 4 hours).

That's the one, but it's about 100 yards further back towards Glyndyfrdwy

Just be thankful I don't have to break out my "comedy tripod" for you to borrow... an ascent up the shaft would seem like a refreshing holiday if you had to lug that around Moel Fferna!

You could use the comedy tripod as scaffolding and just walk out. :-P

One day I'll drag it into a mine, chuck the Bronica on it and damn well take some pictures, just to say I did it! Can't see any crawly manways happening on that day though 😉
