Hexham is 20 miles from Nenthead.
But an afternoon probably won't really do it justice.
Although a dash into Rampgill from the car park is quick enough.

There's at least 3 iron mines in Lincoln, but not sure what's left. Have alook at Greetwell Ironstone mine, Rudgards Iron mine and East Drift Ironstone mine. All within the city
Where there's a mine or a hole in the ground.
That's where I'm heading for that's where I'm bound
So follow me down Cousin Jack

Have a look at Greetwell on this site. ICLOK has kindly put a map up showing mines and quarries around Lincoln
Where there's a mine or a hole in the ground.
