A new event has been added to the Events page.

Event name: Ratgoed November 2010

Date & time: 27/11/2010 at 10:00

Details: Ratgoed mine is a moderate sized but interesting Corris region slate working.

Different in flavour to Blaenau slate mines the layout of these mines often use shafts rather than inclines and don't tend to have any bridges.

The route will be:

Enter floor 3 - pull-through abseil to floor 4

Explore floor 4 - pull-through abseil to floor 5

Explore floor 5 - abseil to floor 6, explore floor 6, back up to floor 5

Out, down to floor 7, abseil to floor 8 and out

There is a massively detailed trip report with photos and surveys here http://www.aditnow.co.uk/documents/Ratgoed-Slate-Mine/Ratgoed-Slate-Mine.pdf

Meeting at 10am at the small car park near the Aberllefenni quarry office.

And the to find a pub...

If I have my full SRT kit by then, and someone fancies giving me a lift from the WRexham area, I'm up for it.

Was chatting to jcam earlier today about getting a corris weekend squeezed in before the end of the year by chance. If he can get a pass might have a couple days down there.

All being well work-wise, I like the look of this - downwards-only SRT trips are a winner in my book!

SWMBO token granted and Lieu day booked off.

I get paid on the 22nd, hope I can have the rest of my climbing gear here by then. Anyone know of a place that has fast delivery? I am after Stop, Ascension, Croll, strappy things for over the shoulders, cowstails and krabs.

can you get over to caving supplies or in Buxton? It'd be the quickest way of getting it- and making sure things fit! otherwise they're pretty fast on delivery.

Caving supplies is your best bet for fast turn round. I do wonder how much training you have received as you seem to be buying a lot of basic new kit?

I can't see a problem myself. I wouldn't recommend the 5 to 6 abseil because it requires you to come up and if you can't you'll be stuffed, but lifelined for an SRT beginner the 3 to 4 and 4 to 5 descents would be a good practice ground and you can get out on at least 2 of those floors.

I appreciate the concern, someone getting stuck halfway up an ascent is going to cause problems.

I've asked my "mentor" to pass judgement, so to speak, on my ability to do it. I can't see a problem, as although I don't yet own the kit, I've used it to the point I'm happy to do most ascents that I am physically capable of. Fitness will not be a problem.
