A new event has been added to the Events page.

Event name: Hendre Spar Meet May 2010

Date & time: 23/05/2010 at 10:00

Details: Hendre Spar was worked on six levels, originally accessed by a steep decline which is now flooded. The mine was worked until 1981, when the adit was sealed.

The spar material was crushed on site and transported to St. Helens for use in glass-making.

(ripped from the calendar!)

Thanks to martymarty for this one, intending to have a full day in Hendre Spar, and hopefully take electron ladders to get down to the lowest floor.

Bring your harness and kit if you want to do the lowest floor, otherwise the rest of the mine is accessible on foot and by ladder. Plenty to see, and plenty of photo opportunities.

Meeting 10am in the car park of the Royal Oak http://www.multimap.com/s/g0X4Vnjl , exploring the mine, and then back to the Royal Oak for a drink :)

Just a quick bump to remind everyont that this is this Sunday! 😉

Meeting point is here: http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=hendre&countryCode=GB#map=53.20007,-3.21659|18|32&bd=useful_information&loc=GB:53.19978:-3.21548:18|hendre|  at 10am.

Those who are observant will notice this is a pub car park, so we can expect a certain person to be having to explain why he's home so late...

 you'll get him in trouble again

Marty - is the bottom floor accessible at the moment? I think it's advertised as bring SRT kit for those that want to see it. Can bring a 10m electron ladder if that's any use?

Does CH7 5QE sound about right for those of us who trust a device to navigate?

Sir, the bottom level will be made accessable for those who want to see it, If you want to see the bottom you will need your harness to ab in or go on the electron but you must be attached to a life line going down and back up :smartass:

Will we tread on anybody's toes by just using a belay belt or are harnesses a must for the ladders?

Really looking forward to this trip as I have not been to any of the mines in Flintshire, and it will make a nice change from the slate mines. Seen some good pictures of Hendre on AN & ME.
Is there much depth of water in the mine as my boots are leaking and about ready for the weely bin by now, but I will bring my joskin waders in case. As well as a full harness.
If anyone wants to borrow a full harness anytime let me know as I have had some from work that we are not allowed to use as they are past their date, but they are basicaly like new.
Bellach dim ond swn y gwynt yn chwibian, lle bu gynt yr engan ar cynion yn tincian.

Many thanks to Marty and Jagman for showing us around. Good crowd as usual, very intersting mine with a lot of usefull spar still left inside from what I could see.
And a very good pub just next door.

Yes, many thanks to Marty for rigging/derigging the bottom level for us all, well worth a visit whilst you are in the mine.
